Strapped for cash, but plenty of soda

without comments

So I have just completed my first week back at Thomson West.  The Verdict:  Exactly nothing has changed in downtown Rochester (and generally at Thomson too) since the last day I worked. (end of last summer)

Instead of a cube on a random floor I am actually in a very large shared office on the main developer floor for my department.  Its really great being around the full timers who I usually have to harass anyway.  It does have its down sides though, namely no privacy – but I have been generally left alone to bang out code and listen to tunes.

My computer is significantly better then my last work computer as well, I finally have a full tower 3.2GHz with 1GB of RAM, and a fairly huge CRT-Trinitron monitor.

Nice and speedy..

Personal Projects Anyone?

So my latest internet project is of course Xbox Live (Gamertags) for Facebook as you can see below this post…  I have now brought Jason Laver onto the development of this application to ultimately create a better application for our growing user base (almost 600 Facebook users now!)

This is probably my first very public, mass consumption, production web application.  It has been an interesting experience, and so far GoDaddy is keeping up with the additional traffic.

Google Calendar Notifier

Now that things for the summer are starting to settle down (or are they just getting started?), I plan to spend a significant amount of time on the development of the next version of the Google Calendar Notifier for Firefox.

The extension has now well over 80,000 downloads since its initial release – and a very strong and dedicated user base.

This time around I plan to track its development and maintenance through Trac (ha ha ha, I crack myself up), and have started the planning of a few key milestones.

Trac is an enhanced wiki and issue tracking system for software development projects.

Oh and of course money..

I received my last RIT paycheck (from actual on location work) today in the mail, a whopping $243.  It actually arrived at a perfect time, I won’t be paid for my first week at Thomson until the end of next week, and boy does this near-college-grad have bills to pay!  Groceries ain’t cheap you know!
